Oribe has collaborated with Australian-Chinese artist and textile designer, Chris Chun, to present a vibrant homage to the Year of the Snake. In the custom designs on our limited-edition Lunar New Year Sets, Chun transforms the Snake into a tapestry of symbolism brimming with cultural richness and artistic flair, inspiring recipients to welcome the new year with gratitude, joy, and great prosperity.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The bold, mesmerizing packaging is based on the Mystic Knot, a craft dating back 1,000 years that is the favored ornament for many families celebrating the Lunar New Year. Tied from a single thread—much like a snake—the knot is a symbol of never-ending luck, prosperity and abundance. Chun evokes the knot through vibrant swirls of traditional auspicious patterns and motifs, from lush peonies and chrysanthemums to slinky snakeskin. The vivid tones include shades of red, said to symbolize happiness, beauty, vitality, good fortune and success.
